As I sat down readying myself to write a new post all about our adventures in Washington at Thanksgiving I realized that I had inadvertently forgotten to write about one of our greatest excursions to date in our Idaho experience: The Potato Museum. Yes indeed, the "world famous" Potato Museum. Days before we left for Gramma Sarah's house we decided we had already waited too long to visit this Idaho hot spot. So on a somewhat chilly day we drove down the road about twenty minutes to Blackfoot to learn about potatoes, their history, how they are grown, why Idaho makes such a great place to grow them and how to spell the word "potato" so we never make a nationally known blunder.
No, you are not mistaken. This is a potato signed by former Vice President Dan Quayle. Interestingly, potatoes can last quite a long time if they are properly dehydrated and this was discovered by the Inca, who were the first known culture to cultivate the potato.
Generally speaking, Idaho potato farming has evolved somewhat from the above example, but from Luke's enthusiasm you might think he had won the Idaho lottery by discovering the proper plowing technique.
I really could go on and on about what we learned because we actually stayed for over an hour in a place where the average museum goer would have experienced museum fatigue within about 10 minutes. But not this group! No, we did not tire for quite some time. But in the end, we did need to have a more hands on approach to potatoes...

Carrie! I love your blog! You are as witty as ever. It was so fun to see the pics of you and the girls in Chicago--how fun!! You'll have to tell me how they are doing!
Love you!
:) One day you'll go on a trip somewhere- they'll serve you a potato and you'll be like, whats this? Where i'm from, we have real potatoes!!
My name is Stephanie and I am the Executive Director of the Potato Museum. I wanted to let you know how glad I am you and your family enjoyed my museum. It's a quirky little stop typically for those on their way to or from Yellowstone National Forest. I encouragee anyone reading this blog to follow in your footsteps and come by and see us.
Again thanks for stopping!
Oh, the potato museum! We have the exact same picture of us posed in front of the potato. I love that you actually go a comment from someone at the museum! You're, like, totally famous!
I just realized that my comment has a type-o and I have no idea how to change it...sorry to be such a lame blog commenter! I'm still learning.
love ya!
I told you there was a Potato Museum! You are going to have some smart smart kids going to all these "famous" museums! Don't you just love McDonald's french fries! And Diet Coke!
I love it! You weren't kidding when you said you and your family love it!
This is Courtney Parmenter, & I was wondering if you wanted to join me and some other girls from the neighborhood for bunco on April 9 at 7:00pm at my house! I would love it if you came! Also, there is something I need to tell you that has been driving my husband and I nuts! I just can't leave it though on a public blog. I did try to find you at church today to speak with you in person, but I never saw ya! Well, I am in the ward directory, or you can just blog me back! Let me know about bunco, I think you would have fun! By the way, I just love little Jane! She always has the sweetest smile on her face.
